El lunes 9 de diciembre, en el marco del proyecto de Ciencia Ciudadana, realizamos una visita a la quinta de Julia, integrante de Minka, donde compartimos observaciones sobre el desarrollo del cultivo de las distintas variedades de tomates que allí cultiva. Estas variedades corresponden a la colección de tomates criollos rescatados por la cátedra de Genética de la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y vinculadas al proyecto “Al rescate del Tomate Criollo”. 

Los días 24 y 25 de noviembre  se llevó a cabo en el teatro Maipo el Encuentro Internacional de Productores Agroecológicos “Semillas antiguas del futuro” donde el proyecto “Al rescate del tomate criollo” fue invitado especial. Este evento fue organizado por Jonathan Nossiter, Stefano Mancuso y Enrique Piñeyro, y fueron invitados guardianxs de semillas encargados de reproducir, guardar y compartir semillas criollas y nativas, agricultorxs, productorxs locales, docentes gastronómicos de la cocina autóctona y científicxs.

On Tuesday, November 5th, we visited Julia, a member of the Agroecological Minka seed production cooperative, at her farm located in Florencio Varela. There, Julia is evaluating tomato varieties linked to the “Al rescate del tomate criollo” project.

On Friday, October 25th, we carried out a transplant day at the Cooperative of Agroecological Production (COPA) in Guernica, Buenos Aires province. There, together with Minka, we evaluated the behavior of one of the heirloom tomato varieties rescued by FAUBA. 

Which is the regulatory framework for seeds in Argentina? And in the world? What intellectual property instruments exist? How do they affect the Argentine seed system? What problems does it have? How is a crop registered in Argentina? And a creole seed?

In collaboration with the Sustainability and Environment Department of the National University of San Martín (SEyV), we launched the project “Living Laboratory: cultivating, experimenting, and learning at UNSAM.” This initiative aims to create a space for experimentation and learning about the evaluation of important food crops, bringing the participatory evaluation experiences that Bioleft has been developing to the university campus.
