For this 2022-2023 campaign, we are carrying out a participatory evaluation of corn varieties improved by three farmer-breeders: Enrico Cresta, Milton Vélez and Claudio Demo. These were planted both in their fields and in experimental plots of INTA Pergamino and UNS (Universidad Nacional del Sur), also together with other commercial maize materials, for comparison.
The data agreed to collect were the dates of male and female flowering, yield, percentage of overturning and breaking, and prolificacy. In addition, the nutritional quality of the grains will be evaluated in the laboratory.
This evaluation aims, in addition to obtaining relevant information on the behavior and maximum yield potential of the materials, to enhance the improvement capacities of farmers through dialogue and the creation of joint knowledge with breeders and extensionists.
