On November 24 and 25, the International Meeting of Agroecological Producers “Ancient Seeds of the Future” took place at the Maipo Theater, where the project “Rescuing the Heirloom Tomato”<\/em> was a special guest.
This event was organized by Jonathan Nossiter, Stefano Mancuso, and Enrique Pi\u00f1eyro, and gathered seed guardians responsible for reproducing, preserving, and sharing heirloom and native seeds, along with farmers, local producers, indigenous cuisine culinary instructors, and scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, discussions focused on the importance of conserving and maintaining ancestral or heirloom seeds, as they are fundamental resources for present and future agriculture, providing diversity and local value to our food.<\/p>\n\n\n

he project “Rescuing the Heirloom Tomato”<\/em>, the result of a collaboration between Bioleft, the School of Agronomy at the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA), and the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA), was invited to present during the second day of the meeting.
The Bioleft team, with the participation of Angelly S\u00e1nchez and Gustavo Schrauf, showcased the work being done in the evaluation and participatory breeding of heirloom tomatoes, highlighting the territorial reach of the participatory evaluation and the inclusion of various types of participants, such as amateur growers, home gardeners, and farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
